The citadel of Joux dominates the cluse of Pontarlier, narrow passage between two mountains over the Besancon-Lausanne road. Occupied at least since the beginning of XIe century, the site was given up by the soldiers only in .... 1940!.

The castle is open all days :

- In July and August of 9h with 18h.
- holidays of February to September 30 of 10h with 11h30 and 14h with 16h30.
- on October 1 at the beginning of the holidays of February: visits with 10h15, 11h30, 14h30 and 16h (time flexible).

NB: the museum is closed during all the winter season for reasons of conservation of the parts. Think of telephoning with the castle to know if it is open.
