Dinan counts many
medieval ruins including/understanding of the almost intact ramparts
and the "castle of the Anne duchess". Mainly built at
the end of XIVe century, it constitutes a very good example of inhabited
keep, strongly strengthened while presenting on several levels a
complete apartment intended to the duke and for his continuation.
It illustrates perfectly the principle of superposition of the parts:
Room common on the lower floor, high rooms being reserved to the
significant people. A private vault communicates with one of the
higher rooms. Dinan, city and castle, were the property of the family
of Dinan until XIIIe century, time when the dukes seized some. Jeanne
de Penthièvre resided at it during the civil war where a
famous courteous episode during proceeded which, during a seat,
Bertrand of Guesclin and Thomas de Canterbury entered in string
and devoted themselves to tournaments in front of the walls of the
city.
