Of Charles VIII in Louis XIV, many kings de France remained with the castle. In the vault, Louis XII marries Anne of Brittany in 1499. Henri IV there worked out, if not signed into 1598 the terms of the edict of Nantes. In its turns were held Chalais, favourite of the king Louis XIII, the cardinal of Retz, the duchess of Berry. The great time is that of the duke of Brittany, François II. The way of life is royal. The court is sumptuous and the very free m?urs. An arm of the Loire bathes then in the castle. The current building, started in 1466 with François II, is continued by his/her Anne daughter of Brittany. The duke of Merc?ur, during the league, adds defenses. From the XVIIIe century, the military administration takes possession, size, bad temper, raises of it buildings with the style without finish. The tower of Spanish, transformed into poudrière, change in 1800. At the XIXe century, the construction of a quay, then at the XXe century, the filling of an arm of the Loire modified the site seriously. Currently, the castle is in the course of restoration.
